Maeve doesn’t know much about herself, but she does know that her relationship with her boyfriend is going from bad to worse, that she doesn’t feel at all comfortable in her dad’s new family, and that she’s sick of every day being the same as the last. The only thing keeping her going is her obsession with trying to find out whether her mum managed to do everything she wanted before she died.

In a spur of the moment decision, Maeve buys a one-way ticket to the other side of the world, returning to the village where she lived as a child. She sees it as an opportunity to feel closer to her mother and her childhood memories which, these days, are the only rays of light in her life.
What she isn’t expecting to find there is Connor, her best friend from when she was a kid. Connor is less surprised, having always suspected that their paths would cross again someday, though he never thought he’d see her as lost as this, struggling to understand who she is. The two of them are both scared that their lives will slip by without them ever having done anything worthwhile, so they hatch a plan. What better way to avoid wasting their lives than by writing a list of everything they want to do and checking things off together?
